Adventures in Renting:
A notice was left on our door (4/20) addressed specifically to David and myself saying that the building manager,'s boss, a representative of the city of West Hollywood and a member of the people who own this building are coming into our apartment between and 1 and 3 on Thursday (4/22) for another "inspection". We one of two tenants who received this unit in the whole building. I spoke with the building manager on 4/20 and he told me that there is a concern that our unit is "too cluttered" to be considered "safe". We've lived here for 14 years and have never ever had this problem. I feel as if we are being harassed plain and simple. We are one of the oldest tenants in the building (14 years) and our rent is cheap (compared to the rest of West Hollywood). They want us out. They've tried things in the past and I wouldn't put it past them to do it again.

On a good note, my bags are packed. My handouts are printed. Clothes need to be packed. Art Journal bag needs to be packed. Paper. Paint. Stamps. Tape. Stickers. Bookbinding supplies. Stuff to make tons of cool pages. Check. Check. and Check. Frenzy Stamper, here I come!!! I can't wait!

And always some awesome links for me to explore...then, lo and behold, you linked to moi! Wow! I feel totally honored, chica. *muah*
I hope all goes well with the idiots that keep harassing y'all with the apartment inspections. Sheesh, what is their deal?
Peace & Love,

That really does stink of harrassment: I've had that happen, too, a property manager was "concerned" that a bedroom was a storage room. I don't get what business it is of anyones !!

(I bet you're earwormed with the Herb Alpert theme for the PROPER Casino Royale for weeks, now!)

I hate your landlord, even from here in Arizona!! how can you stand dealing with them in a civil manner?!? "too cluttered" to be safe?!? since when is that their business? (and I'm sure it's not too cluttered, anyway...) good luck!

You are being harassed, plain and simple - and yes, they do want you out so they can raise the rent.

I would see if you can get some (free, hopefully) legal advice - preferably have your lawyer contact them! - because once an unscrupulous landlord starts shit like this, they won't stop.

I took my former landlord to court, and won - but by the time the case went to court they had already forced me to move.

Do you feel like you are too cluttered to react well during an emergency? Fess up! LOL.

Nah, I've been in homes that are cluttered to the point where it would definitely be a safety issue. It's not uncommon (think How Clean Is Your House, but without the actual FILTH of it). Somehow, I doubt that your place fits this description.

In almost 20+ years of living in LA I have NEVER had a landlord ask for "an inspection" for this sort of thing? Contact a lawyer.

check out:http://www.caltenantlaw.com/Privacy.htm.

(a) A landlord may enter the dwelling unit only in the following cases:
(1) In case of emergency.
(2) To make necessary or agreed repairs, decorations, alterations or improvements, supply necessary or agreed services, or exhibit the dwelling unit to prospective or actual purchasers, mortgagees, tenants, workers, or contractors or to make an inspection pursuant to subdivision (f) of Section 1950.5.
(3) When the tenant has abandoned or surrendered the premises.
(4) Pursuant to court order.
(b) Except in cases of emergency or when the tenant has abandoned or surrendered the premises, entry may not be made during other than normal business hours unless the tenant consents to an entry during other than normal business hours at the time of entry.
(c) The landlord may not abuse the right of access or use it to harass the tenant.
