A few photos of some of my bookshelves:

Note the 4th shelf down has been commandeered by Tristan. Second shelf has a Gorey cat, some kidrobot figures, and some other treasures...

Does anyone else have a hard time cutting up their old Somersets and Cloth Paper Scissors? I have every issue of both...the problem is, I don't go back to them enough to justify keeping the whole magazine. They take up several rows of shelf space, too! But *eeps* cut them up? Would you? Do you? I can do it with any magazine but those two!!!

Ahhh! That's a no no! No cutting! They're sacred! I haven't even cut out the nice papers and clipart in the middle! lol

Your shelves look like my homeschool bookshelves. Wow.

I've got all the Somersets, too, AND Rubberstampmadness going back to the early 80's when it was in newspaper format! Cut them up? I can't even imagine doing that. On the other hand, storage is a problem. I keep them in magazine boxes that have spilled out from the bookshelves and now are beginning to line dance around my work table. I think the RSM's have become a nostalgia thing, but Somerset is so inspirational and I just know if I were to cut one up it will be THAT one that I want to refer to. Egads! What a dilemma! If anyone has a solution, I want to hear it, too!

Thank goodness someone else has more books than me! Must admit that my magazines take up too much space but no way could I either cut them up or part with them - guess I'll be needing a extra large coffin! lol Sue

there is no cutting of the SS or CPS in my house, although i do rip out the artist papers! i learned to let go of the other beloved mags, but it wasn't easy. i do keep juxtapose, etc., and zines. i guess i feel i should have the info. at my fingertips in case i NEED it. not that i could FIND it if i did! and there is the internet...

PS i hope your aunt is feeling better!

I tore up and cut up my SS mags months ago because they were taking over my room.

I tore out the articles and picture ideas I wanted and chucked 'em in the recycle bin.

I do it to my food magazines.. why not my art magazines?

Me too...I just got myself to start to tear out some of the artist papers if I like them...but cut them up? Can't do it. Good thing I live near ikea...

Aarrrrrggghhhh!!!!! Noooooooooo!!!! Don't cut!
I just purged a bunch of paperback books to make room for my art/craft books and magazines. One must have ones priorities. lol I also have every issue of CPS. I can't bear to cut up any of the high-quality magazines and all of their take-offs.
I had to buy 4 more bookcases a couple of weeks ago and there is precious little room on them already.

I cannot cut anything out of either one. I also havent even taken out the nice papers. By the way I love your bookselves you have a very eclectic (spelled wrong I am sure) reading style. I love it when you mention the books that you are reading.

I too tear out the pages and articles that I like or inspire me and I put them in plastic protectors in a three ring binder. It makes for a sort of giant somerset full of only things that I like :)

I think the cutting thing is okay especially when you are short on storage !
And with somerset and cps, there is plenty of advertising that you don't need, so just keep your favorites and toss the rest....you might feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders !

I just rearranged some bookshelves and gave a huge stack of periodicals away after I'd taken out articles I wanted to keep. All of the Somerset publications I have are 'sacred' though. I've carefully removed the artist papers but I will never otherwise bend, fold, spindle, staple, mutilate, or destroy any of these. Same with CPS and Quilting Arts - so much inspiration in them also.
Your bookcase looks like so much fun, Kelly - I want to spend a week or two in a comfy chair right beside it drooling my way through lots of those books.

I always refer to those magazines for inspiration and technique ideas. I tried tearing out and saving what I liked but it was the whole magazine! I'll keep them 'till my next move which will be to a nursing home!!! Carol Weiler

kelly--
i too have an enormous problem with shelf space--
i have begun to scrutinize my magazines-- when i come across a particularly interesting/inspirational article, i will copy it in slip it into a page protector and put it into a binder-- you have to be firm and only do this to articles you can't live without-- i haven't decided what to do with the magazines themselves, but wether i sell them or give them away, giving them a second life with someone else is preferable to trashing them--

let us know what you decide--

oh no, I wouldn't trash them!! I'm either going to:
A. hold onto them.
B. sell them.
C. Cut them up and put the pieces I don't want in my "class" bin for people to take as they'd like.
:) Kelly
